KATHY ZELENKA |
Steadfast friend. Aspire to a simple life connected to nature, people, and the Lord.
Likes: Wilderness, walking, wondering, my garden, good stories, ordinary beauty that blesses everything, swimming in Lake Crescent, the word liminal Dislikes: Injustice, bureaucracy, technology headaches, mayonnaise, the feral bunnies that have found my garden. After two years of leading a Love Box, Kathy's next adventure with Olympic Angels is as a Case Manager. Many things in life have connected her path with this organization, including personal tragedies and learning first-hand about recovery from trauma, choosing hope, and seeking out others who want to walk alongside each other in community and humility and love. That's where the good stuff happens! Often taking the path less traveled, Kathy spent many years as a naturalist and educator with the National Park Service and ended up leaving that to become a full-time mom and homemaker. The home-making phase of life has been enriched with many deep connections built through volunteer experiences. She's in awe of the extraordinary things that can be accomplished when ordinary people come together for good. Kathy is inspired by many things. Among them is a quote from St. Augustine: "Hope has two beautiful daughters. Their names are Anger and Courage. Anger at the way things are, and Courage to see that they do not remain as they are." Small acts of decency heal us, heal others, and bring flourishing to our communities. It's exciting to see where this part of the journey will go and discover whose stories will connect in unexpected and beautiful ways. |
