Annalee moved to Port Townsend from Southeast Alaska in 2020. She joined Olympic Angels as a Love Box volunteer and was soon asked to be on the board. She’s also on the leadership team of Community Build, a local all-volunteer group that builds tiny shelters and “next step” housing.
Annalee retired in 2002 after 8 years as Director of Management and Budget for Democratic Governor Knowles. She helped develop and fund his “Children First” initiatives, including improvements to the state’s foster care system. She was an elementary school reading mentor throughout that time – it was often her favorite hour of the work week!
After a summer internship in 1978, Annalee returned to Alaska as a new attorney interested in public service. During the next 40 years, she managed an Alaska Native Foundation program working in remote villages, was the first Executive Director of a nonprofit supporting families of children with special needs, was the Anchorage budget director, and consulted on public transit and waste reduction/recycling improvements around the state.
“Olympic Angels is a heartfelt match for me. I absolutely love its guiding principle: Let it always be about the children."
