Community Read- Pages of Perspective: Foster Care Awareness Event
In many places, challenges like homelessness, health crises, and justice system involvement can feel distant - but here on the North Olympic Peninsula, they are visible every day.

We see them on our streets, in our emergency rooms, and in the systems so many are trying to navigate. What we are often witnessing are not isolated circumstances, but the long-term effects of early instability - experiences that begin in childhood, including time spent in foster care.

At Olympic Angels, we are working to change that trajectory - not only by surrounding youth with consistent, caring relationships, but by fostering greater awareness of how early experiences can shape lifelong outcomes.

Pages of Perspective is a community-wide reading initiative designed to change how we understand foster care in our own neighborhoods. Through Seattle Times author Claudia Rowe’s powerful book, Wards of the State: The Long Shadow of American Foster Care, we hope to spark meaningful conversations, deepen understanding, and inspire action.

Beginning June 10th, hundreds of free books will be available throughout Clallam and Jefferson counties, giving neighbors across the North Olympic Peninsula the opportunity to read, reflect, and engage together. Visit the Pick Up Locations section to find a participating location.

Then, on August 8, 2026, from 10:00–11:30 a.m., the community will gather at the Elks Ballroom in Sequim for a special morning with author Claudia Rowe and speakers with lived experience. Through honest conversation and personal stories, attendees will explore the realities behind the headlines and celebrate the resilience that emerges when people are seen, heard, and supported. No prior reading is required, and everyone is welcome. Register for the event below for a reminder & more details.

Pages of Perspective is more than a community read - it is a movement toward a more compassionate, informed community. Join us as we read, reflect, and reshape what is possible for children and families in our region.
